Bitcoin capital gains for non U.S citizens
Posted by: davidst01, October 28, 2017 06:36AM
Hi there,

Im a non resident of the States and I have previously registered with a bitcoin exchange in New York and purchased bitcoin. If I sell my bitcoin (ie make a capital gain) am I subjected to tax in the States?

I live in SE Asia and Im deemed to be a non resident of New Zealand where I grew up. The tax dept over there know that Im a non resident.

If I sell my bitcoin on that exchange and ask them to send it to my bank in SE Asia... does the IRS care about this?

Thanks kindly for any qualified accountant specialist for giving me your opinion on this. I really appreciate it

Many thanks

See pub 519. 183 day rule applies.

NRA students in USA could owe 30%.

Make sure your w-8ben is up to date, these expire every 3 years.
