SS Survivors Benefit
Posted by: jrchatfield, May 19, 2015 03:51AM
My friend filed and suspended at full retirement age of 66. His spouse then received one-half of his age 66 benefit. One year later, SS sent him a notice that her benefit would increase 8%. Is this a mistake? I thought the spousal benefit is limited to one-half of his FRA benefit (plus COLA). It appears that she is getting the same 8% bump he is getting for delaying his benefit.

Dont know --but if his FRA amount went up due to added or better quarters in counted 140 quarters it would increase the spousal amount --at least that is what happened when one of us worked well past FRA
