What is the best way to respond to an old thread
Posted by: 47Percent, November 30, 2013 07:55PM
Sometimes I come across an old Fairmark thread through search engines that may be 6 to 8 months old, but the information may still be relevant to the original poster as it may relate to current or still amendable tax years.

I assume any response posted will get completely buried under all the newer topics.

I do not see any way to ping or directly reply to a specific poster. Posting in an unrelated thread, however discreetly done, is verboten.

What would be the suggested way?

Thanks.

Once you respond to an old topic it brings it to the top of the subject board. I don't believe most posters are looking for responses, though, when it gets to 6-8 months past the original post.

DeeDee is correct, adding a new response to an old post brings it to the top. One of the options in our software is to receive email updates when a new message is posted to a thread that is being followed, so it's possible (though not certain) that a new reply will generate a message to the person who made the original post.
