1099 reporting (featured article): Congress is set to debate proposals to amend or repeal a provision of the Patient Protection Act that would expand 1099 reporting beginning in 2012.

Same-sex couples: The California legislature has asked the IRS to settle the question of how California registered domestic partners are to report income on their federal tax returns.

Advance EIC repealed: Effective 2011, the advance earned income credit has been repealed.

Useful or interesting

Unclaimed refunds: The IRS offers tips for those who haven’t filed for a refund to which they’re entitled, or who filed but haven’t received their money.

Unpaid taxes: Those in the opposite situation may benefit from IRS tips on how to resolve a debt owed to the IRS.
